The 5th Annual Morton Marcus Poetry Contest will open on Wednesday, March 26, 2016. Submissions will be accepted through midnight on September 1, 2016.

Prize: $1,000

The contest is open to ALL poets over the age of 18 living anywhere.

You may submit one poem of up to two pages.

This year's judge is Jack Marshall. The winner will be selected by October and notified by November 1. The winner will be invited to read the winning poem at the 7th Annual Morton Marcus Poetry Reading held at Cabrillo College in Aptos in mid-November.

Please submit your work online only, as HARD COPY SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Submit one story or self-contained novel excerpt up to 3,000 words, double-spaced. For flash fiction under 500 words, submit up to three stories in a single document.

Submit up to three poems, in a single document, formatted the way you’d like them to appear.

Submit personal essays, writing tips, reviews of books and films. We’re particularly interested in pieces that highlight writing and life in Santa Cruz—and the intersection between the two. Maximum length is 3,000 words, double-spaced.

Submit up to 10 pages, standard format.
